Our Mora 2022 Chardonnay is selected from our Mendoza and clone 6 own-rooted Chardonnay at our Eden Vineyard in Pisa. The 28-year-old vines from this site are well established, and combined with the stellar vintage we had in 2022, gave us a beautiful Central Otago Chardonnay with great weight, intensity and depth of flavour.
Picked in the cool of the autumn morning to maintain freshness. Whole bunch pressed, settled overnight and put to barrel for primary fermentation. Partially inoculated and partially wild fermented. Full malolactic fermentation. 20% new French oak, remainder neutral oak. Stirred fortnightly for added weight and texture. Aged in barrel for 9 months before blending and bottling.
Fresh, appealing citrus, juicy summer stone fruit and nectarine, supported by shortbread and brioche tones. Great weight, intensity and depth of flavour. This wine is not buttery or oaky. While it is fermented and aged in oak, the oak is well balanced. Great cool-climate acidity, long finish.
